The list goes on…. Why do people hate having their picture taken, why are we so critical of what we look like in pictures yet will enthuse how good others look and tell them off if they critise themselves?
As people we can be very critical about ourselves, and as a woman with female friends I know that woman are quicker to do this then men… why is this? Is it because of believing we need to ‘perfect’, striving for what we deem is societies perception of beauty?
We have one really nice picture of mum, it was taken on my graduation, and it looks natural and she has a nice smile. She did her usual ‘I hate my picture being taken’ and the lady made us all say ‘Terry Wogan’, instant relaxed mouth and no silly faces or grimaces pulled.
There are family pictures where she is not smiling, a bit stony faced, in fear of the camera…. And this is a shame. We have a few pictures of mum where she didn’t know they are being taken, a big smile, laughing eyes and joy…. I think she looks beautiful... I hope she knows she is and does to...
Instead fill yourself with joy and shout out ‘TERRY WOGAN’, laugh, hug the person next to you, look at them, give them a kiss, think of the future when you will look at the image, think of the joy it will bring, think how you will feel if you frowned, grimaced, looked away as everyone else was looking forward……
Don’t worry about what you are wearing, your teeth, what your hair is doing - instead fill yourself with love and let THAT shine through. SMILE - LIVE - LOVE - WOO-HA
